US pursues regime change agenda in Iran: Analyst

5 Nov 2013 - 22:37

Iran must be vigilant in its interactions with the United States as Washington constantly pursues a regime change agenda vis-à-vis Tehran, a political analyst tells Press TV.
“The United States is ... determined to overthrow the democratically elected government in Iran and to replace it with a puppet government that would do America and Israel’s bidding,” said Mark Glenn in a Tuesday interview.
The Islamic Republic “is going to need to be very careful about engaging with America, because America does not look at Iran as a sovereign nation. America looks at Iran as a threat to America’s interest in the region, mainly its global dominance,” he added.
On September 26, Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif and his US counterpart, John Kerry, briefly met in New York following Iran’s talks with six world powers over Tehran’s nuclear energy program on the sidelines of the 68th annual session of the UN General Assembly.

A day later, Iran President Hassan Rouhani received a call from US President Barack Obama as he was heading to the John F. Kennedy International Airport to fly back to Tehran following the UN session.

The two presidents stressed Tehran and Washington’s political will to swiftly resolve the West’s dispute over Iran’s nuclear energy program, and exchanged viewpoints on various topics, including cooperation on different regional issues.

The phone conversation was the first direct communication between an Iranian and a US president since Iran’s Islamic Revolution in 1979.
