TEHRAN June 21 (Shana)--A senior Iranian official has said that the “reformer” used in petrochemical plants for gasoline production does not meet standards.
 Shahrokh Khosravani, deputy head of National Iranian Oil Refining and Distribution Company (NIORDC), said the reformers used in gasoline production in petrochemical plants are short of the necessary properties.



He said the reformer percentage of benzene produced in Bandar Imam Petrochemical Plant varies between 9 and 13 which should be cut to below one. He, however, added that such a reduction would require reduction in other components of gasoline.

The head of the Department of the Environment (DOE) Masoumeh Ebtekar recently said that the gasoline produced by petrochemical plants was “carcinogenic” and “dangerous”. 
Ebtekar said euro-4 gasoline is to be distributed in all big cities by December.

Meanwhile, Abdollah Fazlalizadeh, head of Iran Association of Cancer, said air pollution has fallen to an acceptable level with the elimination of petrochemical gasoline.

“Chemical aromatics and benzene are very dangerous and carcinogenic. Inhaling a bit of them will cause numerous problems for human’s respiratory system,” he said.
