TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran's Deputy Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araqchi said the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) is after an immediate end to the Israeli atrocities against the defenseless people of Palestine.
Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of an emergency meeting of the Palestine Committee of the NAM in Tehran on Monday, Araqchi described the gathering as a “great step by the NAM member states to show solidarity with the people of Gaza.”
“The demand of all members in the meeting was lifting the siege on Gaza and the opening of all crossings (to the region) and an immediate halt to the Zionist regime's crimes," Araqchi stated.
He also said that providing medical relief to the war-torn Palestinians and reconstruction of Gaza was high on the agenda.
"We strongly support the Palestinian people and their resistance and express our solidarity with them," the Iranian diplomat concluded.
The emergency meeting of the Palestine Committee of the NAM was held in Tehran with aim of devising the necessary plans to alleviate sufferings of innocent people of Gaza following Israel’s military offensive.
Algeria, Bangladesh, Cuba, Egypt, India, Senegal, South Africa, Zambia, Palestine, Zimbabwe, Indonesia and Malaysia comprise the member states of the committee.
The death toll from 28 days of Israeli onslaught on the people of Gaza has reached 1,822 with more than 9,400 injured, according to Gaza’s health ministry officials.
UN figures show about two-thirds of the victims were civilians, drawing sharp criticism from around the world.
