Road accident deaths decline in Iran

Iran’s Coroner’s Office has released a report indicating 7,489 people were killed in road accidents in the past five months. IRNA reports that this number indicates a 8.2-percent decline compared to the same period last year.I
Iran has one of the world’s highest rates of death by road accidents. The statistics reveal that Fars, Khorasan and Tehran are the provinces with the highest number of deaths due to road accidents.

Each year, between 20,000 and 30,000 people die in Iran due to road accidents, making it one of the top three causes of death in the country.

Earlier reports indicated that since the 1979 Revolution in Iran, 800,000 Iranians have been killed in road accidents.
