TEHRAN (Tasnim) – A group of Iranian lawmakers will leave Tehran for an official visit to Russia later this week.
Led by Ramezan Ali Sobhanifar, who heads the Iran-Russia Parliamentary Friendship Group, the five-strong parliamentary delegation will start a five-day visit to Russia on Sunday.
Mohammad Taghi Tavakoli, Mohammad Hossein Ghorbani, Hadi Ghavami, Safar Naemizar, and Abbas Salahi are the other members of the delegation.
They are scheduled to meet with Russia’s parliamentary, political and economic officials during the visit.
Tehran and Moscow have taken steps to develop bilateral ties in recent months.
In September, Iran and Russia agreed to boost cooperation in the area of economy and use national currencies in bilateral trade.
In a meeting between Iranian President Hassan Rouhani and Russian President Vladimir Putin on September 30, Putin hailed Iran’s stance on regional and international issues and described the close cooperation between the two countries as a major factor in maintaining the stability of the region.
He underlined that Tehran and Moscow share common stances on many regional and international issues.
Rouhani, for his part, said the common interests of Iran and Russia have strengthened the two countries' cooperation.
"The numerous meetings between the two countries’ leaders and officials indicate the close ties between Iran and Russia and their determination to expand bilateral cooperation,” Rouhani stated.
