Afkham: Tehran has close watch on recent developments in Burkina Faso

Tehran, Nov 5, IRNA – Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Marzieh Afkham said on Wednesday that while closely monitoring recent developments in Burkina Faso, the Islamic Republic of Iran believes that it is very important for belligerent parties to exercise self-restraint and avoid violence or killing people.
While welcoming readiness of the military officials to cede power to civilians and implement the existing constitution in Burkina Faso, Afkham expressed hope that the legal institutions and the transition of power would be carried out soon and actions taken in connection with democracy as a requisite for legal elections.
She noted, "The Islamic Republic of Iran supports peace and security in Burkina Faso and establishment of a broad-based and powerful government with participation of all parties and true representatives of the people of the country."

According to IRNA, dissidents of the government in Burkina Faso stormed parliament building and state TV station once informed of the plan by the country's president to endorse a law which allows him to extend his 27-year-old presidency.
