Qom, Dec 2, IRNA – Senior cleric Ayatollah Nasser Makarem Shirazi said roots of Takfiri beliefs should be dried out by Islamic Ulama, media and thinkers, because military confrontation with such a terrorist group is not adequate.
He made the remarks in a meeting with the UN Secretary General Special Envoy for Iraq Nicolay Mladenov and his accompanying delegation here on Monday evening.
'Of course, challenging their wrong thoughts is responsibility of Islamic Ulama and we expect media to publish whatever we say to be disseminated in the world.'
Referring to ' World Conference on Takfiri groups from Islamic Ulama viewpoints ' in Qom, the ayatollah said our aim for holding such a conference here was showing dangers of the Takfiri and radical groups for Islamic world.
Another point in the conference was the fact that none of the religions should insult each other.
The ayatollah appreciated the UN delegation efforts to return security to Iraq.
He continued that a number of countries have dual behavior concerning ISIS, on one hand, they condemn crimes of the group and on the other hand, are helping them.
The senior cleric asked who is sending weapons for ISIS? Who is buying oil from ISIS? Are you and the UN secretary general not going to warn these countries to stop their actions.
Ayatollah Makarem Shirazi stressed that we do our utmost in confronting Daesh (ISIS), but we are not optimistic about the west activities.
He expressed pleased with humanitarian activities of the UN representative in Iraq.
Ayatollah Makarem Shirazi said that problems in Iraq are not just for the country or its neighbors, but they could be a problem for the whole human community and as we see now they are threatening other societies, including Europe.
The UN secretary general special envoy for Iraq, for his part, presented a report on his works and programs in Iraq.
Nicolay Mladenov and accompanying delegation in their one day visit to Qom city also met with Ayatollah Safi Golpayegani, Ayatollah Seyed Mahmoud Hashemi Shahroudi and visited representative of Ayatollah Seyed Ali Sistani in Iran, Seyed Javad Shahrestani.
