Tehran, Dec 12, IRNA – Following discussions this week with visiting Deputy Chief Executive Officer of Afghanistan Mohammad Mohaqiq, Iran extended for six months the residence time of some 450,000 Afghan refugees living in Iran, according to Foreign Ministry announcement.
The announcement said the Afghan official carried a message from Afghanistan's President Ashraf Ghani and the country's Chief Executive Officer Abdullah Abdullah calling for extension of resistance time of Afghan refugees in Iran, and that given the brotherly relations between the two neighboring countries Iran accepted the demand.
The announcement added that the Afghan government, in return, agreed to facilitate return of the group of refugees and present the plans within two months to a joint committee which was formed during Mohaqiq's Tehran visit.
In his joint press conference last night with head of the Center for Strategic Research of Iran's Expediency Council Ali-Akbar Velayati, Mohaqiq said he had won Iran's permission to extend the resistance time of some 450,000 Afghan refugees, but he did not mention how long the extension would be.
