TEHRAN (FNA)- Iran's top security official Ali Shamkhani demanded the UN Security Council to show strong reaction to the Zionist regime's recent air strikes on Syria.
"The recent aggressions of the Zionist regime against Syria's airspace is a violation of that country's sovereignty and national security and a move in support of the terrorists, and the UN Security Council and other countries should give a firm response to these aggressions to prevent their repetition," Rear Admiral Shamkhani, who is the Secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council (SNSC), said in a meeting with visiting Syrian Prime Minister Wael Nader al-Halqi in Tehran on Tuesday.
He described proposals like the imposition of a no-fly-zone over Syria as an unacceptable move which is aimed at weakening the Syrian government and nation's resistance against the Takfiri terrorists, and said, "The regional countries should avoid adopting profit-oriented and anti-security policies by collecting a correct understanding of the devastating threat of terrorism."
Halqi, for his part, appreciated Iran for its extensive backups for Syria's continued move on the path of supporting the resistance front and providing security and economic welfare for the Syrian people.
Israel carried out two air strikes on Syria, near the capital Damascus on December 7.
Israeli planes bombed the area near Damascus international airport and the town of Dimas, the Syrian army said in a statement carried on the state-run television on the same day.
The Syrian army said the airstrikes carried out by Tel Aviv on areas near the Syrian capital, Damascus, were aimed at helping the ISIL militants operating in the Arab country.
On December 8, Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif condemned the Israeli airstrikes on Syria, and said, "We are looking for a way to put an end to bloodshed and reach a political solution."
Also on the same day, Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Marziyeh Afkham strongly deplored the Israeli airstrikes on Syria.
"The Zionist regime intends to misuse Syria's critical conditions, but the consequences of warmongerings will backfire on the regime," Afkham said.
The Iranian foreign ministry spokeswoman reiterated that Israel's attacks showed its conformity and collaboration with the terrorist groups to destroy Syria and massacre the "oppressed people" of the Arab country.
Afkham called on the United Nations to fulfill its duties to stop these aggressions.
