TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran’s Army Ground Force has gained the technical know-how to prepare all types of its Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) to launch suicide strikes on the enemy targets, a top military commander announced.
Speaking to Tasnim on Tuesday, lieutenant commander of Army Ground Force for operations, General Seyed Ali Mehrabi, said a number of the pilotless aircraft were employed as suicide drones in a recent wargames after undergoing the necessary changes.
He also confirmed reports that one of the suicide drones in the exercises was of Yasir type.
“Among the features of these (suicide) drones is their capability to hit and detonate targets in specific distances while being controlled from a ground station,” the commander explained.
During the large-scale military drills in south and southeast of Iran, held in the last week of 2014, the Army Ground Force flew Yasir and Ra’ad 85 drones for suicide attacks.
In recent years, the Islamic Republic has made great headway in aerospace industries, particularly the acquisition of the technology to manufacture indigenous drones.
