New US bans on Iran will fail, against internatinal law: MP

24 Dec 2014 - 21:16

Iranian lawmaker Mohammad-Hassan AsafariTEHRAN, Dec. 16 (Xinhua) -- An Iranian lawmaker said the new sanctions imposed by the United States on Iran over Tehran's nuclear program will fail, Press TV reported Sunday.
"The sanctions on seven firms and five other Iranian individuals by the United States are in violation of human rights and against international regulations," Mohammad-Hassan Asafari, a member of Iran's Majlis (parliament) National Security and Foreign Policy Commission, was quoted as saying on Saturday.

On Thursday, the United States imposed sanctions on seven more Iranian entities and five individuals to rev up the pressure on Iran over its controversial nuclear program.

Asafari said the new round of U.S. sanctions showed the contradiction in the attitude and behavior of the country's officials.

U.S. officials speak about holding talks with Tehran while they impose tougher sanctions against the Islamic republic, Asafari said, emphasizing that such measures would fail to yield any result.

The sanctions exposed the "bullying nature" of U.S. officials, he said, adding that the U.S. government always seeks to pursue a dual attitude towards other nations.

Iran is under a number of unilateral Western sanctions on its oil and financial sectors over its controversial nuclear program.

The United States and its Western allies have accused Iran of secretly developing nuclear weapons under the guise of its civilian nuclear program, a charge Tehran has consistently denied.
