Iran test-flies 14-passenger chopper

20 Jan 2015 - 15:01

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran’s home-made 14-seat helicopter is undergoing the preliminary flight tests, managing director of Iran's Aviation Industries announced.
Manouchehr Manteqi said on Tuesday that technical details of another 8-passenger domestically built helicopter are also being worked out.

He said the 8-seat chopper will be test-flown by February 19.

Back in September 2014, Manteqi said Iran has successfully completed the initial design phase of a 150-seat passenger aircraft and plans to proceed with the next steps.

Earlier in July 2013, Head of Iran’s Civil Aviation Organization Hamid Reza Pahlevani had announced that researchers from several Iranian industrial and academic centers are working on the project.

The achievements in the country’s aviation sector come against the backdrop of the US-led sanctions against the country's aviation industry over its nuclear energy program.

The tough sanctions ban international companies from selling aircraft or spare parts to Iran.
