Iranian wind-catcher is a traditional Persian architectural element used for many centuries to create natural ventilation in buildings. The function of this tower is to catch cooler breeze that prevail at a higher level above the ground and to direct it into the interior of the buildings.
Using wind-catchers has been common since several thousand years ago in Iranian architecture so that the city of Yazd in Iran is still known as the 'city of wind-catchers.'
