VP calls for broadening of Iran-Croatia relations

Jahangiri &  Striebor KericTEHRAN (FNA)- Iran's First Vice-President Eshaq Jahangiri in a meeting with Croatian Ambassador to Tehran Striebor Keric called for the improvement of bilateral ties, specially the revival of the Joint Iran-Croatia Commission meetings.

"Setting up a joint economic commission between the two countries will help broaden trade ties and economic cooperation," Jahangiri said during the meeting on Sunday.


The Iranian first vice president underlined the need for exchange of high-ranking delegations between the two countries, and said, "Iran and Croatia have large capacities for cooperation and exchange delegations can help exploit the existing capacities."


The Croatian ambassador, for his part, pointed to age-old Iran-Croatia relations have longstanding relations, and said, "Iran is among the first countries that recognized independence of Croatia and it would not be forgotten."


Keric referred to visits of the senior Iranian officials to his country, including Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani, and said, "The visits ushered in a new chapter in bilateral relations, specially in developing parliamentary ties."


The Croatian envoy noted that the Croatian companies are eager to attend Iran's market and added that the two countries can expand cooperation in different fields of energy, information technology, pharmacology, industry and tourism.


Last month, Iranian Ambassador to Croatia Mohammad Ebrahim Taheriyan said Tehran is resolved to utilize all its capacities to consolidate relations with Zagreb.


Taheriyan underlined the importance of the recent visit of the Croatian foreign minister to Iran and expressed hope that the two countries would experience even better relations in the future.


He further pointed to the good situation of Muslims in Croatia and described it as an outstanding example of friendly coexistence between different religions.


Iran and Croatia established diplomatic relations on April 18, 1992 when Iran became the 7th country to recognize the newly-independent Croatia. Croatia has an embassy in Tehran and Iran maintains an embassy and a cultural center in Zagreb.
