Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei has granted clemency or eased the sentences of a number of convicts.

The Leader on Tuesday agreed to a request by Iran's Judiciary Chief Ayatollah Sadeq Amoli Larijani to pardon some convicts on the occasion of the birth anniversary of Imam Ali (PBUH), the first Shia Imam.

The 13th day of the lunar Islamic month of Rajab marks the birth anniversary of Imam Ali (PBUH).

This year, Imam Ali’s birthday anniversary in Iran fell on May 2.
