TEHRAN May 30(Shana)--Iran’s Renewable Energies Organization plans to purchase 80 wind turbines to be installed mainly in the southeastern Sistan Balouchestan province, the director for engineering affairs of the organization said.
Iraj Harsini said Iran, enjoying a unique strategic position, could use win as a secure source of energy for generating electricity.
He said that Sistan Balouchestan, East Azerbaijan, West Azerbaijan, Qazvin, Semnan and Khorasan are good places for the installation of wind turbines.
Harsini said the wind turbines could not be installed in northern and southern coasts due to irregular winds.
“Using wind energy brings about energy security and will contribute to curbing fossil fuel consumption because that would reduce the country’s dependence on the electricity generated by power plants which are mainly fed by gas and petroleum products,” he said.
According to Harsini, more than 200 wind turbines are operating in Iran.
