Hardline MP raps speaker for his guest’s dress

7 Jun 2015 - 17:23

Mehdi Koochakzadeh, a Tehran MP, has lashed out at Speaker Ali Larijani for what he called the indecent and strange dress of a member of the European Parliament delegation in a meeting with Iranian deputies.

On his Instagram page, the principlist MP asked if officials can allow strangers who come to Iran for official meetings to ridicule Islamic values.

In response, Hossein Sheikholeslam – an advisor to the parliament speaker for international affairs – said that the European official’s improper dress was not a deliberate act, adding the Iranian officials in charge failed to let her know about the proper protocol for attending a meeting [in the Islamic Republic].

He added that the European MPs told their Iranian hosts that the US and Israel did not want the European delegation to visit Iran.
