TEHRAN, Jun. 16 (MNA) – Isfahan University of Technology has ranked 4th in the field of Ion Mobility Spectrometry (IMS) in Scopus database ranking. Dr. Mohammad Taghi Jafari, a member of the Faculty of Chemistry of Isfahan University of Technology, said researchers at the Faculty have been conducting special studies on Ion-mobility spectrometry for many years and are now ranked fourth in Scopus database ranking after Washington State University, Indiana University and Pacific Northwest National Laboratory in the United States.

Pointing to the indexed articles on IMS by researchers of various countries in Scopus global database, Dr. Jafari maintained that the Islamic Republic of Iran now ranks sixth in the field of IMS research after the United States, Germany, the UK, Canada, and China.

According to him, the researchers at the Faculty of Chemistry of Isfahan University of Technology have been conducting their studies on an IMS device that was indigenized in the country in 1989.

Ion-mobility spectrometry (IMS) is an analytical technique used to separate and identify ionized molecules in the gas phase based on their mobility in a carrier buffer gas. Though heavily employed for military or security purposes, such as detecting drugs and explosives, the technique also has many laboratory analytical applications.

Scopus is the largest abstract and citation database of peer-reviewed literature which features smart tools to track, analyze and visualize research.
