Germany gives upbeat assessment about nuclear talks

26 Jun 2015 - 22:53

Berlin, Jue 26, IRNA -- Germany insisted again a final comprehensive nuclear agreement with Iran is possible, said German foreign ministry spokesman Martin Schaefer in response to an IRNA question at a press briefing in Berlin on Friday.

We are in the final stretch of the nuclear talks and the moment has arrived for taking the decisive step. In fact, the moment of truth has arrived as we can't continue these negotiations forever, Schaefer said.

We have a window of opportunity over the next days in Vienna which we need to use. We have to grasp this chance. Especially Tehran has to to take advantage of this chance, he added.

The German diplomat said that major steps have been made towards comprehensive agreement since the November 2013 Geneva Joint Plan Of Action.

Schaefer reiterated he was convinced that a final nuclear deal could be reached over the coming days.

He hailed the Iranian nuclear negotiation team led by Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif, saying the Iranian negotiators were clearly goal-oriented at finding a resolution.

Schaefer pointed out German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier is scheduled to fly to Vienna to attend the nuclear talks.

The exact date of his departure to the Austrian capital is still unknown, according to Schaefer.
