The deputy head of parliament’s internal oversight body has said that the Supreme National Security Council (SNSC), not the Islamic Consultative Assembly, should approve the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), citing the sensitivity of the question and the fact that the SNSC decisions should secure the Supreme Leader’s blessing.
Hossein Mozaffar further said that parliament cannot disapprove JCPOA in principle, nor can it make changes to its articles, adding that the country’s interests would be better served if the Iran nuclear deal were not adopted in the chamber.
He said the objection by the negotiating team to the review of the nuclear deal in parliament seems reasonable, adding that we should take heed of the expert views of the warriors of the diplomacy front [a reference to Iran’s nuclear negotiators].
