Iran’s Police Chief Brigadier General Hossein Ashtari has stressed the need for Iran, Tajikistan, Afghanistan, Pakistan and Russia to form a joint workgroup to tackle drugs smuggling.
In a meeting with Director of Russia’s Federal Drug Control Service Director Viktor Ivanov, the Iranian top policeman said that we cannot wait for international and trans-regional organizations to make decisions for us on cracking down on narcotics, adding that the neighboring countries in this region should work together and present convincing evidence to rally international bodies around the fight against trafficking in drugs. If we can cooperate, share intelligence and stop the flow of drugs, that will be quite a feat, he told the Russian drug czar.
