Iran, Belgium discuss FLNG production at Kharg terminal

9 Nov 2015 - 17:46

TEHRAN, Nov. 9 (Shana) – Minister of Petroleum Bijan Zangeneh said following finalization of the talks between Tehran and Brussels, a floating liquefied natural gas (FLNG) vessel will be stationed at Iran’s oil terminal of Kharg Island in the Persian Gulf.

“The Belgian side can bring its FLNG vessels to Kharg so that Iran can produce LNG there for the first time provided that both sides show flexibility and the technical and economic negotiations bear results in not a long period,” he told reporters following a meeting with the visiting Belgian Secretary of State for Foreign Trade Pieter De Crem here on Monday.

Although Belgium has not been a direct customer of Iran’s crude oil, Zangeneh said, it is interested in investing in Iran’s petrochemical sector.

“Prior to sanctions, Belgian firms were active in maritime engineering services and environmental projects worth one billion dollar. They are persisting that the bilateral trade return to the level it used to be,” he said.

According to the Iranian minister, both sides also discussed construction of pipes used in the oil industry, environmental cooperation, and underground natural gas storage.
