TEHRAN, Nov. 11 (MNA) – Polyurethane nanocomposites can now be used more efficiently thanks to the study done by Dr. Mehdi Barikani, a faculty member at Iran Polymer and Petrochemical Institute. Funded by Iran National Science Foundation (INSF), the study aimed at optimizing the efficiency of Nanocomposites Polyurethane by using nanoparticles of diamond.
Polyurethanes are widely used in various industries due to their versatile and unique properties; polyurethanes and polyurethane-urea are commonly applied as coating materials in industrial areas and sport centers due to desirable abrasion resistance. One method do enhance the properties of these nanocomposites is to synthesize them with particles such as nanodiamond. In this study, polyurethane was synthesized in order to examine the effects of nanodiamond on physical, mechanical, thermal and abrasion resistance of different polyurethane-urea elastopmeters.
The results of the study indicated a relative improvement of heat resistance with 1 wt.% of nanodiamond. Furthermore, increase in glass transition temperature and crystallinity of soft segment polyurethane was observed after nanodiamond was added. Finally, derision resistance was significantly increased after the process of synthesis.
