GECF shares gas data with 73 countries through JODI

TEHRAN, Nov. 22 (Shana) - Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF) is an international intergovernmental organization and shares gas data with 73 countries from around the world through JODI-Gas World Database.
GECF’s newly re-elected Secretary General, Mohammad Hossein Adeli, made the remarks in an interview with Shana adding the secretariat has entered a new phase over the two last years.
He added while the GECF’s secretariat was busy with organizing the functions of secretariat before 2014, but after the body has been trying to upgrade the venue of Secretariat, boosting and elevating its place in world scene.
He said: now the Secretariat is comprised of a team which is mandated to monitor the gas market developments. The team monitors and analyses all gas market developments on a daily basis and sends them to all members of GECF on 10 o’clock Doha local time.
According to Adeli, the daily gas report covers several subjects including gas prices in world gas markets, gas contracts, the volume of gas sale and so on, as well as providing monthly and quarterly reports.
GECF’s secretary general, elsewhere in his remarks, said that another team had been set up in the secretariat over the last two years which is involved in forecasting the medium and long term trends in gas markets and pursues the market strategies of major gas exporters.
“The Forum can draft its strategy when it knows what will be market developments”, he said.
GECF official further said that the group had also drafted a comprehensive world econometrics model for the world gas market which was put forward to the 17th ministerial meeting of the forum in Tehran.
Replying to Shana question on the characteristics of the model, Adeli said this model is very advanced in comparison to other existing models and is based on considering the realities of 133 countries around the world.
He added that forecasting gas market developments based on assumptions which are close to reality is the other characteristic of this model.
Adeli noted that over the past two years many efforts were made in order to boost the place of GECF globally including joining to Joint Organization Initiative Gas adding JODI Gas website at GECF has been launched since September last year and is connected with 73 producer or consumer countries.
Holding monthly lecture series by GECF’s secretariat is the other achievement of the secretariat over the last two years, he said adding Daniel Yergin as a prominent economist and the winner of Pulitzer Prize and one of the 100 superior figures of the world was the guest of the last seminar of the forum which was held a few days ago by the Secretariat.
Presently, prominent energy figures from around the world attend monthly lectures of GECF so that the Forum has transformed into a place for exchanging views and holding discussions about different aspects of gas market, he said, adding the secretariat has provided a report in this regard for presentation to the 17th ministerial meeting of GECF in Tehran.
Adeli went on to say that a Technical and Economic Council (TEC) has been formed recently as a new organ at Secretariat. This new organ deals with gas market issues and holds meeting with the participation of the national representatives of the Member Countries.
He said Peru was the latest country that joined GECF during past two years adding joining new members is a clear indication of growing success for GECF.
