TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei on Tuesday called for formation of a coalition of Muslim countries in the fight against terrorists sponsored by the US and certain regional states.
“The issue of Daesh (ISIL) and (other) terrorists who have scattered across the region in the name of Islam is not normal and natural,” Ayatollah Khamenei said, adding that these terrorists have been created and are being supported by certain countries.
The Supreme Leader made the remarks in a meeting with visiting Algerian Prime Minister Abdelmalek Sellal here in Tehran.
Referring to the supports provided by the US and enemies of Islam for these terrorists, the Leader regretted that certain Islamic countries in the region are also supporting the terrorist groups.
Imam Khamenei added that Islamic countries concerned about the issue of terrorism can have dialogue and cooperation to find a practical solution to deal with terrorists.
The Leader further referred to a similar coalition previously formed by Iran, Algeria, Syria, and a number of other countries in the early years after the victory of Iran’s 1979 Revolution, saying the group’s operation was impeded by certain countries that followed the US.
It seems, however, that the grounds are now prepared for the formation of such a group of Islamic countries with common views, the Leader said.
“If such a group is formed, the Islamic countries can be influential in major Muslim world affairs and take practical measures about the problems of region and the fight against terrorists,” Ayatollah Khamenei stated.
Sellal, for his part, said that Tehran and Algiers have “very close” views about political issues, particularly on the campaign against Daesh and other regional terrorists, and underlined the need for seriously fighting the terrorists who have tainted the image of Islam.
