Pakistani president: Time ripe for increasing trade ties with Iran to $5bln

31 Dec 2015 - 18:15

TEHRAN (FNA)- Pakistani President Mamnoon Hussain underlined that Tehran and Islamabad enjoy the necessary potentials to boost their trade ties to $5bln.

There is enough potential to bring bilateral trade to 5 billion dollars, Hussain said in a meeting with Iran's new Ambassador to Islamabad Mahdi Honardoost on Thursday.

Honardoost, for his part, stressed that Pakistan and Iran should work more for the promotion of bilateral trade and economic activities.
The Iranian diplomat said that he would try his best to promote bilateral ties in all fields, including trade and economy.

Iran and Pakistan have exchanged delegations on a regular basis and the two neighboring countries are keen to expedite expansion of their bilateral ties.

Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Java Zarif and his Pakistani counterpart Sartaj Aziz in a meeting in New York in October called for furthering mutual cooperation on export of gas and electricity.

During the meeting on the sidelines of the 70th UN General Assembly meeting in New York, Zarif and Aziz discussed ways to further boost Iran's export of gas and electricity to Pakistan after the implementation of the nuclear agreement between Tehran and the six world powers (the US, Russia, China, France, Britain and Germany) in Vienna on July 14.

The Iranian and Pakistani foreign ministers also called for the further expansion of bilateral ties in other economic areas.

The two sides also agreed to increase the number of visit exchanges by the two countries' officials.
