TEHRAN, Feb. 10 (MNA) – UEFA General Secretary arrived in Tehran on Wednesday morning for consultations with Iranian Football Federation officials.
Gianni Infantino, as one of the candidates of the upcoming FIFA president elections, landed in Tehran with Lufthansa flight to exchange views with President of the Iranian Football Federation Ali Kafashian on the ground.
He was welcomed by Head of the AFC Futsal and Beach Soccer Committee Abbas Torabian upon arrival at Tehran Imam Khomeini International Airport (IKIA).
General Secretary of the Union of European Football Associations (EUFA) said “I have travelled to Iran in order to discuss about the progress of football and FIFA; I also intend to meet old friends like Abbas Torabian with whom I have been in contact for several years.”
“Being the first ranking in Asia, Iran remains a country of football,” noted Infantino stressing “I have become a candidate for the FIFA presidency and it is natural that I travel various countries; I seek to talk about football and FIFA development.”
During his one-day trip to Tehran, UEFA General Secretary will discuss various issues about football with Iran’s Ali Kafashian before visiting the Iran National Football Academy.
Gianni Infantino will also take part at a press conference and respond to questions from reporters.
The Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) presidential elections will take place at the Extraordinary FIFA Congress in Zurich on 26 February 2016.
