The president of the International Weightlifting Federation (IWF) is going to pay an official visit to the Islamic Republic of Iran in late May to oversee the first edition of the International Fajr Cup.
President of the Islamic Republic of Iran Weightlifting Federation Ali Moradi told reporters on Saturday that Tamás Aján will be in the Iranian capital city of Tehran from May 29 to June 2 to supervise the sporting event.
The first edition of the International Fajr Cup will be staged at the Weightlifting Hall of Azadi Sports Complex in western Tehran, and will serve as the qualifying tournament for the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
A total of 260 weightlifters will be competing for the top honor at the 2016 Summer Olympics. Each competing country is allowed to enter a maximum of ten competitors, including six men and four women.
Participants at the first edition of International Fajr Cup will be in action in men’s 85-kilogram, 94-kilogram, 105-kilogram and over 105-kilogram weight categories. The top three athletes will be awarded cash prizes.
