Baku. Konul Jafarli – APA. “Iran’s President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad wants to use the Putin-Medvedev formula,” said first vice-speaker of the Iranian parliament Mohammad-Reza Bahonar, APA reports quoting “Radiofarda”.
According to him, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad is trying to find a new variant during the recent months of his presidency: “For this reason, the Iranian president is seeking insufficiencies in the Constitution. He has chosen the path of Russia’s President Vladimir Putin, wants to be president for 20 years.”
Bahonar said that former presidents also tried to find insufficiencies in the country’s constitution to extend their term of office: “For example in the recent months of their presidency, former presidents Ali Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani and Mohammad Khatami also wanted to take such a step, but the Constitution prevented it.”
According to Iran’s Constitution, one person can not be elected as president more than twice. Ahmadinejad has been elected twice.
Next presidential elections in Iran will be held on July 14 this year.
