Iran wins Greco-Roman silver at Wrestling World Cup

Iran had to settle for a silver in the Greco-Roman Wrestling World Cup 2013, which was held, in Tehran, after losing to powerhouse Russia in the final.
On Wednesday, Russia defeated Iran 5-2 in the gold medal match, which was held at Tehran’s Azadi Sports Complex.

In the 55kg weight class, Iran’s Mohsen Hajipour lost to Russia’s Bekkhan Mankiev; Iran’s Abdolmohammad Papi was defeated by Russia’s Ivan Kuylakov in the 60kg weight class; in the 66kg weight class, Russia’s Adam Kurak beat Iran’s Afshin Biabangard; Roman Vlasov of Russia defeated Farshid Alizadeh of Iran in the 74kg weight class; Taleb Nematpour of Iran defeated Aleksey Mishin of Russia in the 84kg weight class; Iran’s Davoud Gilnirang was defeated by Russia’s Nikita Melnikov in the 96kg weight class; and Iran’s Bashir Babajanzadeh beat Russia’s Shohruddi Ayubov in the 120kg weight class.

In the bronze medal match, which was held before the final, Turkey defeated Armenia 6-1.

The World Cup freestyle tournament is scheduled for Thursday and Friday.

Iran, Russia, the United States, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Japan, Belarus, Bulgaria, and Turkey will compete in the competition.

These 10 countries, which were the top teams at the 2012 London Olympic Games, have been divided into two pools of five for this stage of the tourney.
