TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Commander of Khatam al-Anbia Air Defense Base Brigadier General Farzad Esmaeili highlighted the country’s self-sufficiency in manufacturing strategic radar systems, saying that the Islamic Republic is capable of producing radars for domestic needs.
“Close cooperation among Armed Forces, industries and universities has formed a very good cycle in the area of (manufacturing) the Armed forces’ needs,” Brigadier General Esmaeili said in a visit to the central city of Isfahan on Saturday.
The “invaluable” cooperation has helped Iran reach self-sufficiency in cutting edge technologies, including those used in production of radar equipment, the commander noted.
“We are capable of producing radars with various frequencies and ranges for our own needs,” he added.
In a naval exercise in Iran’s southeastern waters back in January, the Iranian Navy unveiled the country’s newest tactical radar.
The new gear was a portable L-band radar system, a tactical radar employed in electronic warfare.
Iran has in recent years made great headways in manufacturing a broad range of military equipment, including the air defense systems that use advanced technologies.
Tehran has repeatedly stated that its military might is defensive in nature and poses no threat to other countries.
