9 May 2016 - 12:56

TEHRAN (FNA)- Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe is scheduled to visit Iran in the near future, Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araqchi announced on Monday.

"It is very good that the meetings between senior Iranian and Japanese officials have been so useful that the have resulted in the upcoming visit of Japanese prime minister to Iran," Araqchi said today.

Araqchi reiterated that the meetings between Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif and his Japanese counterpart has resulted in stabilizing the two countries' relations.

"Setting up Iran-Japan Cooperation Council, signing of document to support joint venture investment, and the visit of Iranian economy minister to Tokyo have paved the way for the expansion of relations between the two countries," the Iranian deputy foreign minister said.

Abe’s visit will serve to boost economic relations between the two countries. During his four-day stay, he will meet with President Hassan Rouhani among others.

The aim behind the visit of Premier Abe is to broaden economic cooperation and increase import of Iranian crude oil by Japan.

Implementation of the nuclear deal and removal of economic sanctions against Iran has encouraged Tokyo to take action in broadening cooperation with Tehran and not to be left behind by its economic rivals such as China.
