TEHRAN (FNA)- New Zealand's Foreign Minister Murray McCully underscored his country's determination and commitment to obviate barriers on the way of its bilateral relations with Iran.

"There is an extensive atmosphere for the growth of economic and trade cooperation between the two countries," McCully said in a joint press conference with his Iranian counterpart Mohammad Javad Zarif in Tehran on Saturday.

"We, as the foreign ministers, are committed to remove obstacles on the way of the bilateral relations," he added.

Noting that economic consultations and exchanges are not enough for broadening mutual trade cooperation, McCully said, "We need a bigger architecture and structure to develop cooperation."

McCully's remarks came after his earlier meeting with Zarif in Tehran today.

During the meeting, the two top diplomats discussed different avenues for the further expansion of bilateral ties and mutual cooperation.

Iran's Zarif had made a visit to Wellington in March during which he held separate meetings with the high-ranking New Zealander officials.

In his meeting with McCully at the time, the two officials explored avenues for bolstering and reinvigorating bilateral relations.

The two foreign ministers also discussed regional developments and crises.

Also in a meeting with New Zealand's Prime Minister John Key in Wellington, they discussed ways to broaden cooperation in trade and economy.

During the meeting, Zarif elaborated on the existing potentials for cooperation in order to expand trade and economic relations between the two countries.

He further underlined the need to strengthen cooperation in resolving key regional issues, including the twin wars in Iraq and Syria.

Earlier, Zarif held a meeting with Leader of New Zealand's Labor Party and senior MP Andrew Little in Wellington in March.
