Tehran, June 5, IRNA – Spokesman for the Foreign Ministry said Muhammad Ali, the legendary American boxer, was a pioneer in racial equality who stood up for blacks' rights.
Hossein Jaberi Ansari expressed condolences over death of Muhammad Ali on June 4.
'He was not only a famous champion in the area of boxing, but also a 'Pahlevan' (hero) which is a title in Iranian culture and tradition given to somebody who considers morality all through the sports games,' said Jaberi Ansari.
Muhammad Ali will be a constant reminder of negation of Imperialism and warmongering activities, the official added.
Former world heavyweight boxing champion Muhammad Ali died on June 4 at the age of 74. He had long suffered from Parkinson's syndrome.
