7 Jun 2016 - 10:50

TEHRAN, Jun. 07 (MNA) – Iran’s labor minister has urged the International Labor Organization (ILO) to develop cooperation with Iran over labor market as well as provision of technical assistance.

Iranian Minister of Cooperative, Labor and Social Welfare Ali Rabiei, who is staying in Geneva to attend the 2016 International Labor Conference (ILC), met and talked with ILO Director-General Guy Ryder.

“Given the good level of collaboration between Iran and the International Labor Organization (ILO), we are seeking an increased level of technical cooperation between the two sides,” said Rabiei at the meeting.

The Iranian official, while pointing to the position of ILO and the expectations of employers and employees’ communities from the organization, appreciated the efforts made by Guy Ryder in this regard.

Rabiei also referred to regional issues and the destructive activities of war seekers which have led to unemployment and homelessness for a large number of people; “we urge ILO to pay due attention to regional conditions.”

He also asked the ILO to boost bilateral ties with the Islamic Republic of Iran in view of the good relations that have been shaped over the past two years.

Labor minister went on to enumerate the measures taken in the country stating “we have taken several unprecedented steps in Iran as the ties between employers and employees have never been any closer before.”

Meanwhile, ILO Director-General Guy Ryder, for his part, expressed satisfaction towards the measures taken by Iran over the past two year calling for reinvigoration of bilateral ties until practical outcomes are attained.

“We would not look for merely diplomatic relations, rather we are after operational cooperation with the Islamic Republic of Iran,” noted Ryder.
