TEHRAN, Jul. 18 (MNA) – Head of the Strategic Research Center of Iran’s Expediency Council Ali Akbar Velayati underlined that Iran welcomes more interaction with Asian countries to fight against terrorism and extremism.

Addressing a conference named “Growth Through Interaction: The South Asian Opportunity”, in Singapore, Velayati who is also an adviser to the Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei on international affairs, said Iran’s policy as a country affected by manifestations of terrorism and extremism is to cooperate with other Asian countries to eradicate the ominous event.

He described poverty, underdevelopment, insecurity, unilateralism and extremism as the serious problems in human society and underlined the focus on regional convergence and development of cooperation to achieve sustainable security, the fight against extremism and terrorism and achievement of goals of growth and development.

Pointing to the policies of the Islamic Republic of Iran in formalizing the borders, rule of law and respect for people’s legal vote in government elections, Velayati said Iran is a country with stable security in the troubled region; it has ample and unparalleled capacities and fights with all forms of violence, extremism and the emergence of any terrorism.

Iran, he added, opposes any kind of change of the legal regimes through power, military force, coups, violence and separatism, as in Yemen, Syria, Iraq and other countries.

Velayati went on to say that “unfortunately, for the reasons stated, the Asian region has undergone problems like homelessness and forced migration of citizens; the unpleasant phenomenon can only be resolved through the development of cooperation, dialogue between cultures and civilizations and combat against violence.”

Dr. Velayati left Iran for Singapore on Sunday to attend a conference named “Growth Through Interaction: The South Asian Opportunity” on Monday and Tuesday.

Senior officials of Singapore, India and Sri Lanka as well as 100 top investors and businessmen from Japan, India, Singapore, Hong Kong, Britain, Pakistan and Australia are taking part in the event.

Velayati will also head for Malaysia to meet with senior officials of the country.
