Amir-Abdollahian: Lebanon resistance in 2006 war wrecked Israel hegemony

22 Jul 2016 - 17:58

TEHRAN, Jul. 22 (MNA) – Special Aide to the Parliament Speaker Hossein Amir-Abdollahian said Lebanon’s resistance during 33-day war of 2006 shattered the hegemony of the Israeli regime.

Amir Abdollahian, Iran’s former Deputy Foreign Minister for Arab and African Affairs, in an interview with ‘Alahad’ news website, congratulated Lebanese’s people, government and resistance movement on the upcoming anniversary of the victory of the Islamic resistance movement in the 2006 Israel-Hezbollah War.

The Iranian official hailed Hezbollah as a ‘matter of pride’ and ‘honor’ for the region.

“Lebanon’s resistance during the 33-day war proved the country’s might and the falsehood claims of the Israeli regime on owning a great amount of power,” he said.

Amir-Abdollahian further maintained that the Islamic Republic of Iran is proud of Seyed Hassan Nasrallah’s powerful status as the leader of Islamic resistance movement, adding “today, the security of the region and the world owes a lot to the resistance and sacrifices of Hezbollah in the fight against the Zionist regime and Takfiri terrorism.”

Conflict erupted between Israeli forces against the fighters of Lebanon’s resistance movement on July 12, 2006, and went on for 33 days until a United Nations-brokered ceasefire went into effect on 14 August. About 1,200 Lebanese, mostly civilians, were killed in the Israeli war on Lebanon; However, the war ended with Hezbollah fighters's victory over the Israeli military, forcing Tel Aviv to retreat without achieving any of its objectives.
