Tehran, Aug 15, IRNA – Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif praised the stance of Burundi in the United Nations and Non-Aligned Movement, saying that Iran supports political stability in Burundi and keen on cooperation with the African state.
Zarif made the remarks in a meeeting with Burundi Minister of Foreign Affairs Alain Aime Nyamitwe.
Zarif expressed Iran's positive and constructive views about strengthening ties with African states including Burundi.
He said that the current good relations between the two countries need to be strengthened and Iran welcomes expansion of all-out ties with Burundi.
Alain Aime Nyamitwe said that Burundi believes in friendly relations with Iran.
He said that direct educational cooperation between universities of the two countries and granting scholarship for Burundi students in Iran is satisfactory.
Nyamitwe called Iran's position in the region and the world very important, saying that expansion of cooperation with Iran on agenda of Burundi.
Zarif had visited Burundi in February 2015.
Nyamitwe is due to meet with President Hassan Rouhani and submit message of Burundi president to him.
He is to meet with Minister of Science, Research and Technology, officials from Petroleum Ministry as well as Ministry of Energy during his stay in Tehran.
