TEHRAN, Sep. 26 (MNA) – Iranian Parliament's General Director for International Affairs stressed the many commonalities between Iran and Turkey, saying their cooperation could help resolve the Syrian crisis.
Hossein Amir-Abdollahian made the remark in a meeting with Turkish Ambassador to Tehran Riza Hakan Tekin on Sunday evening. During the meeting, the Iranian official referred to the strong parliamentary ties between the two countries, adding “the expansion of parliamentary ties can help develop all-out relations between the two countries and improve the complicated and difficult situation in the region.”
He announced that Iran-Turkey’s Parliamentary Friendship Group will be soon decided in the parliament and start its missions.
Amir-Abdollahian also touched upon Turkey’s developments in the wake of the failed July 15 coup, and deemed the Turkish government’s measures to control and manage the event highly significant.
He further highlighted the significance of continued meetings and consultations between the parliament speakers of regional countries for the settlement of Syrian crisis and other problems currently facing the region.
The Turkish ambassador, for his part, underscored the friendly ties between Tehran and Ankara, and thanked Iranian President Hassan Rouhani and Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani for their clearly-expressed positions after the failed coup in Turkey.
Hakan Tekin further expressed his support for the Islamic Republic’s policy on combating terrorism in region, saying “Iran and Turkey see eye to eye on many issues.”
He also called for closer cooperation and better parliamentary relations between the two countries.
