Official: Airbus, Boeing grant Iran maintenance, repair rights

19 Oct 2016 - 14:01

TEHRAN (FNA)- An Iranian aviation official announced that Airbus and Boeing have granted permissions to Iran for maintenance, repair and spare parts operations of their airplanes.

"Airbus and Boeing have given the Iranian aviation industry the rights for plane maintenance and repair operations as well as manufacture of airplane spare parts," Member of Iranian Aviation Companies Association Maqsoud Assadi Samani said on Tuesday.

He said that the negotiations with Airbus and Boeing authorities had been underway with satisfactory pace.

In mid-September, Deputy Managing Director of Boeing Company Martin Benturd underlined that the sales of the giant aviation firm's airplanes to Iran is on the right track.

"There is no problem for selling airplanes to Iran and conditions are ripe for obtaining license from Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC)," Benturd told reporters in Ashgabat.

He underlined that Boeing and the Iranian airliners are continuing their talks on the sale of passenger planes.

OFAC is a financial intelligence and enforcement agency of the US Treasury Department.

In mid-June, Head of Iran’s Civil Aviation Organization (CAO) and Deputy Road Minister Ali Abedzadeh announced that the country has signed a deal with Boeing on purchasing 100 planes from the US manufacturer.

"The two sides reached a written agreement to purchase 100 planes," Abedzadeh said.

He said that the written agreement was made after representatives of Iran and Boeing company held several rounds of talks, adding that the planes will be provided to Tehran through a financing deal.
