Lawmaker: Iran could exit nuclear treaty
A senior lawmaker says Iran will keep open the prospect of withdrawing from the Nuclear Nonproliferation Treaty and will seriously consider it if the West intensifies sanctions or refers the case to the U.N. Security Council.

Iran’s state TV Al-Alam website quoted Alaeddin Boroujerdi on Monday as saying that Iran cannot remain a treaty member at the same time it is being sanctioned.

 
Iran to stage military parade
A military parade will be held in Iran on April 18 in connection with the Day of the Iranian Armed Forces, Iranian Fars news agency said on Monday.

All units of the Iranian Armed Forces, Sepah corps, land forces and military aviation will participate at the parade in Tehran. It will take place in front of the mausoleum of Iranian former spiritual leader Ayatollah Khomeini.

 
Egypt suspends commercial flights from Iran after protests
Egypt has halted commercial flights from Shi’ite power Iran until mid-June, days after the first such flight in 34 years between the countries provoked protests from hardline Sunni Islamists in Cairo.

That first commercial flight, from Cairo to Tehran, took off on March 30 in the latest step towards normalising ties broken after the 1979 Iranian revolution, when Egypt gave sanctuary to the deposed shah of Iran.

Iran has barred a Saudi diplomat allegedly involved in a deadly drink-driving accident from leaving the country, Fars news agency has cited top lawmaker as saying.

 
Iran to boost gas exports in efforts to cut oil sales reliance
Iran plans increase its natural gas exports as a way to diminish its reliance on crude sales, a senior Iranian Oil Ministry official said.


Iran will “witness a change in the revenues of the country from crude oil to natural gas,” said Javad Owji, managing director of National Iranian Gas Co., according to the state-run Mehr news agency. Owji, who didn’t specify how much Iran earns from oil and gas sales separately, pointed to the country’s goal to triple gas shipments to some of its neighbors.

 


Iran, Nicaragua call for more ties
The Islamic Republic of Iran and Nicaragua have called for the further expansion of economic and political relations between the two countries.

In a meeting with his Nicaraguan counterpart Sandinista René Nunez, Iran Majlis Speaker Ali Larijani said, “Political and economic relations between Iran and Nicaragua are expanding.”
