Chinese FM terms JCPOA as a multilateral document

5 Dec 2016 - 11:51

IRNA – Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) is a multilateral document endorsed by the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) and should not be affected by domestic developments of countries.

He made the remarks in a meeting here with his visiting Iranian counterpart Mohammad Javad Zarif who arrived in the Chinese capital on Monday morning at the head of ranking economic and political delegation. This is Zarif's second visit to the country in the post-JCPOA era.

Developments occurring in the domestic scopes of countries should not affect implementation of the landmark nuclear deal signed between Iran and the world six major powers (US, Britain, Russia, France and China plus Germany) in 2015, said the Chinese foreign minister.

He said full implementation of the nuclear agreement by all parties is a must.

Wang also welcomed Iran’s decision to join the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) and said his country backed Iran’s membership in the organization.

During the meeting with his Chinese counterpart, the Iranian foreign minister discussed issues of mutual interest and reviewed latest regional and international developments.

He also emphasized old and long-standing friendly relations between the two countries and said he saw no obstacles on development of mutual relations.
