Iran e-commerce rate hits single digit

25 Dec 2016 - 16:35

December 25, The Iran Project – Following the launch of 3G and 4G services in Iran and the nationwide access to them, the Islamic Republic of Iran is now among the top 10 countries in Asia and Pacific in the field of e-commerce.

According to the statistics, by 2013, Iran ranked 69 among 70 countries in the digital economy so it can be concluded that no serious action was taken for e-commerce-based businesses.

But in recent years, following the launch of 3G and 4G services, Iranian citizens have significantly accessed to the Internet so more users have been using the net for e-commerce transactions.

Thus, according to B2C E-Commerce Index 2016 calculated by UNCTAD (United Nations Conference on Trade and Development), Iran is ranked 77 among the top 10 countries in Asia and Pacific.

Based on the global statistics and considering the volume of e-commerce, in early 2013 and before the launch of 3G and 4G services, Iran ranked 100th in the field of e-commerce.

According to the statistics released by the "Invest" Institute, in 2013, volume of the world e-commerce was more than $680 billion of which Iran’s share was less than 15%.

Now, considering Iran's rank among the top 10 countries in Asia  and Pacific, it seems that e-commerce transactions have substantially increased.
