Iran warns US over provocative moves in Persian Gulf

12 Jan 2017 - 15:22

January 12, The Iran Project – Vice president of Parliament National Security and Foreign Policy Commission has warned US vessels not to intrude into Islamic Republic’s territorial waters, otherwise there will be dire consequences.

Mansour Haghighatpour made the remarks in reaction to a U.S. destroyer steaming through the Strait of Hormuz fired multiple warning shots at a speedboat operated by Iran’s Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC).

The US military claimed that Iranian boats sped close to two US Navy destroyers with their weapons uncovered in the Strait of Hormuz in an “unsafe and unprofessional” encounter.

US warships have repeatedly been received warnings by the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) over their provocative move in Iran’s territorial waters in the Persian Gulf, he noted.

Elsewhere in his remarks, he stressed Iran's armed forces informational and operational dominance on the territorial and international waters, he pointed out that we are even capable of closing the Strait of Hormuz.

In January, Iran’s Navy arrested the crews of two US patrol boats that had trespassed on Iranian territorial waters. Iran released them after establishing that they had done so by mistake.

Iran has invariably asserted that it only uses its naval might for defensive purposes and to send across the Islamic Republic’s message of peace and security to other nations.
