March 6, The Iran Project – An Iranian senior lawmaker has criticized some Sunni-Shia divisive remarks, stressing that dividing Sunnis and Shias is actually in line with the US and Israel’s policies.
Iran's Deputy Speaker of Parliament Ali Motahari made the remarks following some Sunni-Shia divisive measures that have been taken in Iran’s local sites.
Speaking to a reporter on Monday, Motahari warned on fueling Shia-Sunni conflicts and said such divisive measures are against the Islamic Republic’s policies.
Since the Islamic Revolution, there has always been emphasis on Islamic unity and Sunni and Shia’s unision against the common enemies, the Iranian parliamentarian noted.
Touching upon the Supreme Leader’s emphasis on Shia-Sunni unity, he said during his recent visit to Kurdistan, Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei warned those who insult respected Sunni figures.
Also, Grand Ayatollah Makarem Shirazi recently highlighted the importance of promoting religious activities in order to introduce the world to the moral virtues of the holy infallibles (as) with respect to the unity among Sunni and Shia Muslims.
In the meantime, Iranian Intelligence Minister Seyyed Mahmoud Alavi said last month that unity and cordial relations between Shia and Sunni Muslims play a key role in reinforcing security in the Middle East.
