IRNA – The Greco-Roman World Cup 2017 competitions kicked off in Abadan, a city in the southwestern Iranian province of Khuzestan on Thursday.
The two-day world event is attended by eight premier Greco-Roman wrestling teams.
Iran, Russia, Kazakhstan and Germany are in the same group while another group consists of Turkey, Azerbaijan, Belarus and Ukraine.
The 2017 Greco-Roman competitions starts with a match between the Iranian and German athletes.
Iranian Greco-Roman team has a record of clinching five championship titles in 2010 in Yerevan (Armenia), 2011 in Minsk (Belarus), 2012 in Saransk (Russia), 2014 in Tehran and 2016 in Shiraz (Iran).
The 2017 Greco-Roman wrestling championship is being held in Abadan, while the event has already been held six times in other Iranian cities in 1997, 2005, 2013, 2014, 2015 and 2016.
