IRNA – President Hassan Rouhani said on Tuesday that Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei’s demands about the UNESCO 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development will be met.
Addressing the Supreme Council of the Cultural Revolution (SCCR), President Rouhani stressed that the SCCR will tenaciously follow the Supreme Leader’s points about the 2030 Agenda.
He added, “It is natural that the West and the East try to spread and even impose their lifestyles on others, but we, along with the Muslim countries, should strongly safeguard our cultural and religious frameworks.”
The Head of the SCCR said that many of the international conventions and documents, like 2030, are not binding.
In the session, Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif and the former Minister of Education Ali Asqar Fani gave reports, respectively, on how such documents are inspected and passed and on how the 2030 Agenda was inspected and finalized in the international bodies.
All the members by consensus agreed that the main document of Iran is the Fundamental Reform Document of Education (FRDE).
It was also determined that in the following meeting, the final comment of the SCCR be publicly announced.
Ayatollah Khamenei in a recent speech slammed the superpowers’ dominance over the United Nations and said, “Why should a so-called ‘International’ community, which is definitely infiltrated by the superpowers, have the right to make decisions for the nations of the world with various cultures?’”
“The UNESCO 2030 Education Agenda and the like are not issues that the Islamic Republic of Iran could surrender and submit to,” the Leader said in his address to a large group of teachers and education specialists and university students on the occasion of the National Teachers’ Day on May 7.
In mid May, spokesman for the Government Mohammad Baqer Nobakht announced that Iran has stopped carrying out the UNESCO 2030 Agenda after opposition of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei.
At his press conference, Nobakht added the implementation of the Agenda will not be resumed until removal of certain ambiguities.
