No concern over this year's Hajj: Iranian official

19 Jul 2017 - 15:27

IRNA – Enough planning and coordination has been made and there is no concern about the Hajj rituals for this year, the representative of Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei at the pilgrimage said here on Wednesday.

“Spreading the false news is the trouble of this year’s Hajj,” Ali Qazi Asgar said, addressing a gathering about the major Hajj in Qom province, 125 km south of Tehran.

Security, as he said, is an important measure of this year’s Hajj rituals.

The official further described the unfounded news spread out by certain media about the electronic bracelets as 'deplorable'.

He then announced that 86,500 Iranian pilgrims will be sent to Hajj ceremony this year.

The Iranian pilgrims couldn’t attend the great religious ritual in 2016 as the Saudi officials failed to ensure their security based on provisions made by the Iranian officials after the tragic incident in the previous year.

About 500 Iranian pilgrims were killed during a stampede in 2015 Hajj annual congregation when, according to reports, two large groups of pilgrims arrived together at a crossroads in Mina, a few kilometers east of Mecca, on their way to performing the 'Stoning of the Devil' ritual at Jamarat.
