Iran, Uruguay seek ties expansion

 IRNA – Ways of enhancing bilateral cooperation in various fields were discussed in a meeting between Iran and Uruguay officials.


In the meeting Iran’s ambassador to Montevideo Abolfazl Pasandideh and Uruguay’s Vice President and Senate Speaker Raul Sendic, ways of boosting political, economic, cultural and parliamentary cooperation between the two countrie were explored.

Iran’s ambassador described Sendic’s last year visit to Iran as a new chapter in two countries’ ties and expressed Tehran's eagerness for cooperation in various fields, especially scientific, cultural, industrial, agricultural and livestocks.

Sendic, for his part, expressing satisfaction at the momentum created in ties between the two countries, emphasized his country’s readiness for expanding cooperation with Iran, including holding the 6th Economic Joint Commission in the Uruguayan capital, Montevideo.

The Uruguayan politician in a visit to Iran last May met with some Iranian officials, including President Hassan Rouhani and Parliament (Majlis) Speaker Ali Larijani.

Uruguay is one of the major producers of agricultural and livestock products in Latin America that enjoys historical ties with Iran.
