WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — The Trump administration is conducting a comprehensive Iran policy review in order to address the country's compliance with its obligations under the 2015 nuclear agreement, also known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), US Department of State spokesperson Heather Nauert said in a press briefing on Tuesday.
"There is a full Iran review policy that is still underway. I don't want to get ahead of what this review policy is going to be," Nauert stated. "We still believe what Iran is doing is destabilizing and that the JCPOA does not fully recognize and comprehend and encompass all these destabilizing activities that Iran is engaged in."
Earlier on Tuesday, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani told lawmakers that Tehran could withdraw from the JCPOA within hours if the United States continued to escalate rhetoric about adding new sanctions.
Nauert said the Trump administration remains committed to countering full range of Iran's illicit activities against countries across the world.
Moreover, Nauert said she did not have any intelligence on Iran's intention to boost funding for its ballistic missile program, but it would certainly be a concern for the United States.
On Sunday, the Iranian parliament passed a legislation to increase spending on its missile program in response to the sanctions.
